Today I learned how to print documents as booklet on OS X without any additional tools. Here’s how:

  1. Convert what you want to print into a pdf and open it in preview.
  2. Hit command-p to open the print dialog.
  3. In the print dialog, select the Layout pane, and over there select ‘Booklet’.
  4. Hit print and watch a booklet come out of your printer.

I’m not sure if this is built in or depends on what printer you have, but I’ve seen it working on my home-office Brother inkjet and a closet filling HP office all-in-one printer.

(Note that my Mac runs High Sierra, not sure if older versions of OS X also sport this option.)

That means there is absolutely no need to go out and download tools.
